This Rapid Assessment Program Bulletin reports the findings of an expedition in 2003 into four forest reserves in southwestern Ghana that were recently designated as globally significant biodiversity areas by the Ghanaian government. The survey documented more than 1,300 plant and animal species (with one amphibian species new to science) and makes specific recommendations for conserving the biological resources of these areas.

This report contains the biological findings and conservation recommendations of an aquatic expedition along the Pastaza River, one of the least disturbed of the upper Amazon River tributaries. The scientific team discovered moderate to high species richness; they concluded that the area has high conservation potential because of its relative intactness--a product of its remoteness and the low density of human population nearby.

The Simandou Range in the southeastern Republic of Guinea is an intriguing region for biological research with its diverse assortment of ecosystems and significant natural resources. This bilingual French-English volume reports on the findings of the 2002 Rapid Assessement Program (RAP) survey on the Pic de Fon in the Simandou Range. The RAP surveying team documented 797 species, several of which are brand new to science.

The Konashen Community Owned Conservation Area (COCA)--a stretch of 625,000 hectares of forest in the southern region of Guyana--is relatively unexplored and considered to be one of the last large intact areas of tropical wilderness remaining in Guyana. The data collected during a rapid assessment survey, summarized in this volume, indicate that the forests of the Konashen COCA--maintained primarily by members of the Wai Wai indigenous group--are in very good condition and support rich biodiversity. The assessment team recorded twelve species that are likely new to science as well as more than sixty species found for the first time in Guyana and a number of threatened and endemic species.
